Principal
Dear Peterson Families,
My name is Rick Hayashi and it is a true privilege to be the principal at Peterson Middle School.
As a Bay Area native with over two decades of experience in education, I have had the pleasure of working in school districts in San Francisco, San Jose, and Campbell. Throughout my career, I have served at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. Most recently, I was a proud founding administrative member of MacDonald High School in SCUSD, which opened its doors in 2022.
My combined educational and therapeutic background has given me a unique perspective on the importance of developing well-rounded students who possess the academic, social, and emotional skills necessary to thrive as productive citizens.
As a parent of a son and daughter, I deeply understand the vital role of the parent-school partnership in supporting our students. These personal experiences have reinforced my belief in creating an environment of safety and inclusion where every student feels valued, challenged, and successful.
Peterson’s experienced and dedicated staff are committed to providing the support, information, and resources necessary to ensure the highest level of service during the critical middle school years.
As the site principal, I am excited to be a part of the Peterson Middle School community. Together, we will create a nurturing and inclusive environment where every student can thrive.
GO PIRATES!!!
Rick Hayashi
Peterson has three full time administrators including two vice principals, Angela Kretsch & Krista Keneman. All three of us have Administrative experience at the high school, as well as middle school levels so we are very familiar with the skills that our students will need to be successful at the next level in their education.
It is our belief that the middle school years are a time for learning and growth. Students will make mistakes during these three years. Our goal as an Administrative team at Peterson is to offer support and guidance through this important time in their lives. It is our position that we help them learn from their mistakes and missteps in order to grow and become successful, independent and thoughtful people when they leave SCUSD.
Our intention is to partner with our parent community. We lean on you to help us support your students and reinforce the skills and lessons learned here at Peterson in the home environment as well.
